SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of F. George "Steve" Stevenson of Godfrey,
4 who passed away on August 30, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, F. George "Steve" Stevenson was born February 21,
6 1926, in Salem, the son of Edgar and Minnie (Mundweiler)
7 Stevenson; he married the former Lucille Niermann on September
8 19, 1948, in Hoyleton; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He began working in the automobile business in
10 1948 in Alton with Walz Oldsmobile; he established Quality
11 Pontiac in Alton in 1958 and continued to serve as president
12 until his death; he worked alongside his two sons, Greg and
13 David, and two grandsons, Chad and Cody; and
 
14     WHEREAS, He served his country in the U.S. Navy in the
15 Pacific during World War II as a signalman; he was a member of
16 Alton VFW Post 1308, an active member of Evangelical United
17 Church of Christ in Godfrey for 60 years, a member of Lockhaven
18 Country Club, and an avid golfer; he served on numerous
19 Automobile Dealers Councils at the State and national levels,
20 and he was formerly a member of the Alton-Godfrey Rotary Club;
21 and

1     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his three
2 sisters; and his four brothers; and
 
3     WHEREAS, F. George "Steve" Stevenson is survived by his
4 wife; his two sons and their wives, Greg and Gerri (Neubauer)
5 Stevenson and David and Carol (Adams) Stevenson; his
6 grandchildren, Jill Stevenson, Natalie (Stevenson) and spouse,
7 Cole Merrill, Chad Stevenson and his spouse, Megan (Ashlock),
8 and Cody Stevenson and spouse, Nicole (Krueger); his four
9 great-grandchildren; his sister, Helen Waggoner; and many
10 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13 his family and friends, the passing of F. George "Steve"
14 Stevenson; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of George Stevenson as a symbol of our
17 sincere sympathy.
