SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Edward P. Morrissey of Chicago, who
4 passed away on August 2, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was a 1961 graduate of Loyola Academy in
6 Wilmette, where he distinguished himself as an all around
7 student and athlete and co-captain of the football team; at age
8 eighteen, right after high school, he joined the Jesuit Society
9 of Jesus from 1961 to 1968; during his time in the Jesuit
10 seminary at Milford, Ohio, he obtained a bachelor degree in
11 Classics (Latin and Greek) and he taught English and Sociology
12 at St. Xavier High School and coached soccer; and
 
13     WHEREAS, He graduated from Boston College in 1967 with a
14 degree in Philosophy; he received his Juris Doctor in 1974 from
15 Creighton University Law School in Omaha, Nebraska; he
16 practiced law in Elmhurst and was a Cook County Assistant
17 State's Attorney before marrying Elsie (Campbell) in 1984; he
18 practiced family law in Sandwich for 22 years and will be
19 remembered as an honest, hard working lawyer; and
 
20     WHEREAS, In 1994, he ran for Circuit Court Judge for the
21 16th Judicial Circuit and for De Kalb County State's Attorney
22 in 1996; in 2006, he made a career change to teach Latin at

1 Aurora Central Catholic High School; and
 
2     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis J.
3 and Margaret (Scott) Morrissey, and his brother, John
4 (Georgann) Morrissey; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Edward Morrissey leaves his beloved wife of 25
6 years, Elsie (Campbell); his children, Carrie (John) Libetti,
7 Clete Campbell, Clayton Campbell, Paul, Dorothy, and Laura
8 Morrissey; his wife's nephew, Paul Sipes; his four siblings,
9 Mary (Robert) Moroney, Joseph (Joan) Morrissey, Dennis (Helen)
10 Morrissey, and Richard (Althea) Morrissey; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13 his family and friends, the passing of Edward Morrissey; and be
14 it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of Edward Morrissey as a symbol of our
17 sincere sympathy.
