SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Katherine E. "Kay" Massey of Alton, who
4 passed away on June 2, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Kay Massey was the daughter of the late Edward and
6 Lucile (Tyner) Stobbs; in 1955, she married her high school
7 sweetheart, Richard Massey; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Kay Massey attended the University of Illinois and
9 was a member of the A O Pi Sorority; after her seven children
10 were born, she went back to college and graduated from the St.
11 Louis College of Pharmacy in 1976; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Kay Massey and her husband were the owners of
13 Massey Pharmacy in northern Alton until their retirement in
14 1997; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Kay Massey was a past President of the Alton
16 Children's Theatre and the Philanthropic Educational
17 Organization's Chapter GG; she was also a member of the
18 Community Service League, the Upper Alton Women's Club, and the
19 Illinois Coalition for Improving End of Life Care, as well as
20 the treasurer of the Godfrey Baptist Church; and

1     WHEREAS, Kay Massey pursued a wide variety of interests,
2 including quilting; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Kay Massey is survived by her husband; her
4 daughters, Sara (Craig) Lambert, Jill (Richard) Luft, Sue
5 Knight, and Dr. Barbara (Derrik) Spoelman; her sons, Ed (Penny)
6 Massey, Sam Massey, and Tom (Gina) Massey; her sisters, Sandra
7 (John) Jones and Mary (Tom) LaBoube; her 18 grandchildren; her
8 Massey family in-laws; and dozens of dear nieces and nephews;
9 and
 
10     WHEREAS, Kay Massey will be remembered by all who knew and
11 loved her as a kind, caring wife and mother who set high
12 standards and good examples for her children; therefore, be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15 her family and friends, the passing of Katherine E. "Kay"
16 Massey; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Kay Massey as an expression of our
19 sympathy.
