SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Donald C. Gilkison of Godfrey, who passed
4 away on May 13, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born March 3, 1937, in Springfield, the son
6 of Isaac and Lucille (Biggs) Gilkison; he married the former
7 Jean Pigott on August 23, 1958, in Sycamore; and
 
8     WHEREAS, He was a United States Army veteran and graduated
9 from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's degree; he
10 retired in 2001 as the vice president of administration from
11 Olin Corporation; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He was a member of Godfrey First United Methodist
13 Church, a board member at Riverbend United Way, Olin Community
14 Credit Union, and Alton Memorial Hospital; he was one of the
15 founders of the Inroads, and a board member of Riverbend
16 Headstart and Family Services; and
 
17     WHEREAS, He loved the outdoors, was an avid fisherman and
18 hunter, and enjoyed mountain biking and hiking; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and his
20 sister, Juanita Tucker; and

1     WHEREAS, Donald Gilkison is survived by his wife, Jean; his
2 daughter and son-in-law, Libby and Alex Cannon; his son and
3 daughter-in-law, David and Anna Gilkison; his six
4 grandchildren, Sophie, Isabel, Jackson, and Caroline Cannon,
5 and Isaac and Emma Gilkison; and his sister, Margery Saksa;
6 therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9 his family and friends, the passing of Donald Gilkison; and be
10 it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Donald C. Gilkison as a symbol of
13 our sincere sympathy.
