SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Mae Anita Leverett of Chicago, who passed
4 away on February 7, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born of January 12, 1918 in Augusta,
6 Georgia to the late Mary and William Brown; she accepted Jesus
7 Christ as her Savior at an early age; she was a graduate of
8 Haines High School and Spellman College in Atlanta, Georgia,
9 where she majored in education; and
 
10     WHEREAS, She taught students in junior high school in the
11 Augusta schools; during her time teaching, she met and married
12 George Taylor Leverett and together they had five children; and
 
13     WHEREAS, She moved with her family to Chicago in 1947 and
14 found employment with the Spiegel Company; she retired as Lead
15 Operator after thirty-seven years with the company, and was
16 given one of the largest retirement parties in the history of
17 the company for her years of outstanding service; and
 
18     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, George;
19 her sisters, Willa, Ester, and Eleanor; her brother, William;
20 and her youngest son, Tyrone; and

1     WHEREAS, Mae Anita Leverett is survived by her son, George
2 (Shirley); her daughters, Betty Cobbs, Paulette Nash, and
3 Minister Annette Clemons (Lloyd); her play-daughters, Nadine
4 McKinnor, Debra Lewis, and Mary Reed (Ruben); her fourteen
5 grandchildren; her twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a host
6 of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9 her family and friends, the passing of Mae Anita Leverett; and
10 be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Mae Anita Leverett as a symbol of
13 our sincere sympathy.
