SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Ethel Lee Lewis, who passed away on April
4 18, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Ethel Lee Lewis was born on March 2, 1925; her
6 parents were Holly Parks and Olivia "Levie" Parks; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Ethel Lee Lewis married the late Roscoe Bunn in
8 1950 in Mississippi; four years after the birth of their first
9 child, the couple moved to Chicago in search of new employment
10 opportunities; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Ethel Lee Lewis married the late Ervin Porter in
12 1956; together, they had one daughter in 1957; the couple was
13 blessed with nine years together as she managed their household
14 while doing domestic work outside the home as well; and
 
15     WHEREAS, In the mid-1970s, Ethel Lee Lewis married the late
16 Elgin Lewis; the couple remained in Chicago; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Ethel Lee Lewis enjoyed gospel music, shopping for
18 shoes to accessorize her hand-made dresses, studying herbs and
19 natural holistic health care, watching "I Love Lucy", and
20 entertaining dinner guests; and

1     WHEREAS, Ethel Lee Lewis was a member of the Emerald Avenue
2 Church of God (later renamed Covenant Faith Church of God) for
3 over 20 years; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Ethel Lee Lewis was preceded in death by her
5 husbands; her parents; her sister, Thessalonians; and her
6 brothers, Grady, AB, and Levi; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Ethel Lee Lewis is survived by her sisters, Elsie,
8 Omega, Elizabeth Myrtle, and Jean; her brothers, Dewayne and
9 Holly, Jr.; her children, Quinton and Leviticus; and her
10 grandchildren, Jermaine, Leviticus II, Edna, and Alana;
11 therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
14 her family and friends, the passing of Ethel Lee Lewis; and be
15 it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to the family of Ethel Lee Lewis as an expression of
18 our sympathy.
