SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Rachel M. "Grammy" Sweitzer, nee
4 Fairbanks, of Wilmette, who recently passed away; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born in Wisconsin, south of Fairwater; her
6 parents were the late Frank and Paulina Daane Fairbanks; and
7 she was a graduate of Brandon High School; and
 
8     WHEREAS, She graduated from St. Agnes School of Nursing in
9 Fond du Lac in 1935; she worked for Hines V.A. Hospital before
10 her military service; and
 
11     WHEREAS, She was a Captain in the United States Army Nurse
12 Corp, serving with the 4th Auxiliary Surgical group during
13 World War II and participated in the Allied Invasion of France,
14 landing at Utah Beach in Normandy; she served with General
15 George Patton while in Europe; she met her husband while
16 serving overseas; and she was awarded the Bronze Star and the
17 Government of France awarded her the National Order of the
18 Legion of Honor on May 7, 2005 for her service as a nurse
19 during the War; and
 
20     WHEREAS, She was a devoted soccer, basketball, and lacrosse
21 grandmother; and

1     WHEREAS, She was the loving wife of the Caesar Sweitzer,
2 M.D.; the cherished mother of Caesar (Peg), Dean (Patricia),
3 Rick (Helen), and David (Kam) Sweitzer; the loving and proud
4 grandmother of Emily, Charles, Rachael, Christopher, Taylor,
5 and Anna; and is survived by many dear nieces and nephews;
6 therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9 her family and friends, the passing of Rachel Sweitzer; and be
10 it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Rachel Sweitzer as a symbol of our
13 sincere sympathy.
