SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Lillian Murrell Sharp Reed; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Lillian Reed was was born on September 4, 1923 in
5 Chicago; her parents were Earle Sue (Trotter) and Leon Sharp;
6 and
 
7     WHEREAS, Lillian Reed received her formal education in the
8 Chicago Public Schools, attending Betsy Ross Elementary and
9 Englewood High School; along with her deep love of music and
10 dance, she developed an abiding thirst for knowledge and zest
11 for traveling and seeing as much of America as the 20th century
12 would allow, attending the Chicago World's Fair in 1934 and the
13 New York World's Fairs in 1939 and 1964, as well as driving
14 cross-country to Los Angeles before the advent of interstate
15 highways; she was also a voracious reader with a life-long
16 passion to see the worlds that she read about; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Lillian Reed was preceded in death by her parents;
18 her sisters, Doris Leona (Sharp) Carter and Ruth Marion Sharp;
19 and her dedicated companion, Alexander Coles; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Lillian Reed is survived by her son, Thomas
21 Spencer Gary; her daughter-in-law, Evette F. Little; her

1 grandson, Alexander Thomas Gary; her granddaughter,
2 Maya-Gabrielle Francesca Gary; and her many adoring nieces,
3 nephews, cousins, and friends; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Lillian Reed will be remembered by all who knew
5 and loved her as a woman who was devoted to her family and
6 friends; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9 her family and friends, the passing of Lillian Murrell Sharp
10 Reed; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Lillian Murrell Sharp Reed as an
13 expression of our sympathy.
