AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 1664

2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 1664 on page 7, by
3 replacing lines 2 through 11 with the following:
4     "Except as otherwise provided in this Section, beginning on
5 the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 96th General
6 Assembly, the maximum rate of any tax imposed under this
7 Section is 0.75%. If the rate of tax exceeds 0.75% on the
8 effective date of this amendatory Act of the 96th General
9 Assembly, then the rate shall be reduced to 0.75% beginning on
10 the first day of January or July, whichever is first, to occur
11 not less than 90 calendar days after the effective date of this
12 amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly. The county board";
13 and
 
14     on page 7, by replacing lines 21 through 25 with the
15 following:
16         ""Shall (county) be authorized to increase its
17     retailers' occupation tax and service occupation tax to

1     (percent)?"
2     Votes shall be recorded as "Yes" or "No". If a majority of
3 the votes cast on the proposition are in favor of the increase,
4 then the increase is authorized, and shall be implemented as
5 provided in this Section."; and
 
6 on page 13, by replacing lines 17 through 26 with the
7 following:
8     "Except as otherwise provided in this Section, beginning on
9 the effective date of this amendatory Act of the 96th General
