HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Cory V. Atwell on
4the occasion of his retirement as Executive Director of the
5Glen Ellyn Park District; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Cory Atwell graduated from Western Illinois
7University in Macomb, earning his bachelor's degree and his
8master's degree in parks and recreation administration; he is
9also a Certified Park and Recreation Professional; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Cory Atwell served his country with pride and
11distinction as a member of the United States Armed Forces from
121971 to 1973; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Cory Atwell was employed in the parks and
14recreation field for 30 years at the Crystal Lake Park
15District, the Village of Park Forest, Olympia Fields, the
16Homewood-Flossmoor Park District, and the Glen Ellyn Park
17District; and
 
18    WHEREAS, During his tenure as Executive Director of the
19Glen Ellyn Park District, Cory Atwell was instrumental in the
20completion of numerous district projects, including the
21purchase of the DuPage County Forest Preserve District

1administrative building and its renovation into the Spring
2Avenue Recreation Center; the provision of $725,000 toward the
3enlargement of two gymnasiums at School District #41 in
4exchange for before-school and after-school use for recreation
5programs; the procurement of over $3.5 million dollars in grant
6monies from IDNR, OSLAD, and Illinois First; the purchase of
7the old Maryknoll Seminary in Glen Ellyn and its renovation
8into a 26-acre community park; the construction of a young
9adult in-line skate park at Newton Park and an additional lap
10pool at the Sunset Pool Aquatic Park; the acquisition of over
1175 acres of open space for the Park District since 1997; the
12renovation of the Main Street Recreation Center in 2009; the
13installation of a vortex system for Lake Ellyn to improve the
14water quality and ice skating in the winter; the renovation of
15the Village Green Park Multi-Sports Outdoor Complex; the
16creation of 23 agreements with various governmental bodies and
17private entities; and the opening of the Ackerman Sports and
18Fitness Center in January of 2010; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Cory Atwell and his loving wife have 3 children
20and 2 grandchildren; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Cory Atwell serves as a model of hard work,
22integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of
23Illinois; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
3congratulate Cory V. Atwell on the occasion of his retirement
4and wish him many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it
5further
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7presented to Cory Atwell as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
