HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Alene O.
4Fleming of Robbins, who passed away on December 24, 2010 at the
5age of 103; and
 
6    WHEREAS, She was born on August 7, 1907 in Bolivar County,
7Mississippi to Ned and Lela Fleming; she attended First Baptist
8Church in Renova, Mississippi; she was baptized at the age of
912; she also had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing
10throughout her life; and
 
11    WHEREAS, She attended school in a one-room schoolhouse in
12Renova; she attended high school in Tuskegee, where she studied
13nursing and proudly served Dr. George Washington Carver his
14breakfast each morning; and
 
15    WHEREAS, She moved to Chicago in 1925; during World War II
16she worked at a defense plant where she was a seamstress; on
17September 22, 1926 she married Clarence Rochon; she moved to
18Robbins in 1957 and joined St. John Community Church, where she
19was a soloist in the Senior Choir, a member of the August
20Birthday Club, and an active participant in the Willing Workers
21Club; and

1    WHEREAS, In the 1960s, she returned to school and completed
2her Child Development Certificate at Moraine Valley Community
3College; she retired from Robbins Head Start in the mid 70s;
4she was involved in local politics, the Robbins Celebration
5League, and the PTA; and
 
6    WHEREAS, In 1981, she relocated to The Woodlands, Texas to
7help with the rearing of her grandsons; she was a member of St.
8Paul's Baptist Church of the Woodlands; she returned to Robbins
9in 1997; and
 
10    WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her siblings,
11Richard, Bessie, Ned, James, Perry, John Henry, Bertha, Ruth,
12Geraldine, and Carl; her son, Walter Collins (Floree); her
13granddaughter, Gwendolyn Boston; and her grandson, Mckinley
14"Mack" Collins; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Alene Fleming is survived by her sisters, Bernice
16Lee and Lyree Roberson (King); her sisters-in-law, Irma Fleming
17(James) and Lillian Fleming (Carl); her children, Harold
18Douglas Fleming (Jane) and Ava Blocker; her grandchildren,
19Walter Collins, Jr. (Gladys), Maurice Collins (Vivian), Ralph
20Collins, Rose Ikpelue (Mike), Melvin Collins, Anthony Collins
21(Joyce), Martin Amos (Angela), Erick Fleming, Derrick Fleming,
22Chantal Fleming, Joshua Fleming, Doyle Fleming (Rhoda), and
23Darren Fleming; her 39 great-grandchildren; her 33

1great-great-grandchildren; her great-great-great-grandchild;
2her numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and
3friends; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Alene
7Fleming; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Alene Fleming as a symbol of our
10sincere sympathy.
