HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Gerald
4McClallen on becoming the President of the Illinois Osteopathic
5Medical Society at the Presidential Banquet to be held on
6December 4, 2010; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Dr. McClallen is the Chief of Staff and Chair of
8the Medical Executive Committee for St. Joseph Memorial
9Hospital in Murphysboro, where he is the Director of Emergency
10Medicine; and
 
11    WHEREAS, As Chief of Staff, he also represents the medical
12staff on the Southern Illinois Healthcare Board of Trustees; he
13is also on the staff of Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and
14Herrin Hospital; he is also a part-time attending physician at
15the Southern Illinois University Student Health Center in
16Carbondale; and
 
17    WHEREAS, He is a member of the Physician Health
18Organization Steering Committee and the Professional Services
19Committee; he previously served as Chief Deputy Coroner for
20Jackson County, and as Physician Medical Director for Region
21Five of the Southern Illinois EMS System; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. McClallen is a 1977 honors graduate of the
2University of Illinois, serving as a Research Assistant; he
3later attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in
4Kirksville, Missouri; after medical school, he did a rotating
5osteopathic internship at Phelps County Regional Medical
6Center in Rolla, Missouri, and a Residency in Emergency
7Medicine at what is now South Pointe Hospital in Warrensville
8Heights, Ohio; and
 
9    WHEREAS, He was presented the Teacher of the Year award by
10the Residents of the Southern Illinois University Family
11Practice program in 1994 and again in 2001 when he was chosen
12as a co-recipient; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dr. McClallen is a past Associate Clinical
14Professor for the Southern Illinois University School of
15Medicine; he was Chair of the Hospital Based Physicians
16Committee (1997), Emergency Medicine Committee (1996-2002),
17Critical Care Committee (1997), and Observation Committee
18(1999), as well as serving on the Executive Committee for St.
19Joseph Hospital; he teaches as an Advanced Trauma Life Support
20Guest Lecturer for Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis,
21Missouri, and is an instructor of Advanced Cardiac Life Support
22and Pediatric Advanced Life Support; and
 
23    WHEREAS, He has served as Illinois Osteopathic Medical

1Society District 5 Trustee, Legislative Chair, and Membership
2Committee Chair; he has served as Program Chair for the 2010
3Winter Continuing Medical Education Program; he is a member of
4the Illinois delegation to the American Osteopathic
5Association House of Delegates, serving as Vice President in
62008-2009, and in December of 2009 as President-Elect; and
 
7    WHEREAS, He and his wife, Deborah, have 4 children and 1
8grandchild; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11congratulate Dr. Gerald McClallen on becoming the President of
12the Illinois Osteopathic Medical Society and wish him continued
13success in the future; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to Dr. Gerald McClallen as a symbol of our respect
16and esteem.
