HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lance
4Corporal Alec E. Catherwood of Byron, who gave his life
5defending America's freedom on October 14, 2010, in the Helmand
6province of southern Afghanistan; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Alec E. Catherwood was born on May 6, 1991 in
8Heilbronn, Germany, to Kirk and Gretchen Catherwood; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood was a member of the
10Future Farmers of America as a sentry, the Boy Scouts, and had
11a black belt in tae kwon do; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood graduated in 2009 from
13Bryon High School and enlisted in the United States Marines
14Corps on June 1, 2009, where he had wanted to serve since he
15was 3 years old; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood was deployed to
17Afghanistan to serve his first combat tour of duty and had
18talked about re-enlisting; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood's awards and
20decorations include the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon,

1the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service
2Medal, and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Catherwood will be missed by his
4parents, Kirk and Gretchen Catherwood; his sister, Mikaela
5Montgomery; his fiancee, Hailey Patrick, whom he to marry on
6July 2, 2011; as well as his fellow soldiers and the citizens
7of a grateful nation; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
10mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Lance
11Corporal Alec E. Catherwood; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of Lance Corporal Alec
13E. Catherwood and his willingness to serve his country, which
14led to him making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Lance Corporal Alec E. Catherwood as
17a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
