HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Major
4John Francis Lynn, United States Marine Corps, retired, of
5Marion, who passed away on October 10, 2010; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He was born March 8, 1952, in Chicago, the son of
7William Francis and Ruth Mary (Meier) Lynn; he was united in
8marriage to Patty Durall on May 29, 1976, in Marion, and
9together they shared the last 34 years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, He served in the United States Marine Corps for 3
11years as an enlisted member, and 20 years as an officer,
12retiring as a major; he served as a tank officer in California
13and North Carolina and was a foreign area officer in Central
14and South America; he was a graduate of Southern Illinois
15University School of Law in Carbondale and, until his passing,
16served as assistant dean for Administration of the Southern
17Illinois University School of Law; and
 
18    WHEREAS, He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in
19Marion; he was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association
20and Pro Bono Counsel for Fisher House in Chicago; he was
21director of the Veterans' Legal Assistance Program at the
22Southern Illinois University School of Law and spent

1considerable time working on behalf of local veterans; he
2worked with Big Brothers of Georgia, and he was a supporter of
3the Special Olympics; in his spare time, he enjoyed the art of
4stained glass and molding lead miniatures; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; and
 
6    WHEREAS, John Lynn is survived by his wife, Patty Lynn; his
72 daughters and one son-in-law, Rachel Lynn and Andrew Dunston,
8and Kathryn Lisbeth Lynn; his grandson, William Grady Dunston;
9his sister, Patricia Lynn and husband, Michael Webb; his 2
10brothers and sisters-in-law, Michael and Honey Lynn and David
11and Elaine Lynn; his mother-in-law, Colleen Norman; his
12father-in-law, Maurice Durall; several nieces and nephews; and
13other extended family and many friends; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John
17Lynn; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of John Lynn as a symbol of our sincere
20sympathy.
