HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the staff and
4congregation of St. Patrick Catholic Church of Lake Forest on
5the centennial celebration of the church, October 2-3, 2010;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, A missionary circuit in 1837 ministered to by
8Father John Guegnin saw the emergence of gathering places for
9families to express their belief in God; St. Patrick Catholic
10Church in Lake Forest was one of the churches to count their
11origins from that humble start; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Part of the celebration will include a permanent
13history display that will show old photographs, documentation,
14sacramental records, such as first communions, weddings, and
15confirmations, and will highlight the service of previous
16pastors; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Thomas Quinn became St. Patrick's first pastor in
181909; in 1910, the initial small building for St. Patrick
19Catholic Church was built and is still used today as an
20intimate setting for daily Mass, as a part of other additions
21to the original edifice; and

1    WHEREAS, The church was originally a mission of a
2Waukegan-based congregation and was first called St.
3Michael's; by the mid-1860s became known as St. Patrick; a
4brick church was constructed in 1853 at Waukegan Road and Route
560 and rebuilt in 1883; the bricks of the first church were
6recycled into a new building; in 1875, lightning hit the church
7and destroyed it and it was rebuilt only to burn again 20 years
8later; and
 
9    WHEREAS, By 1995, a new church building was needed to host
10all family members; Cardinal Francis George dedicated the new
11building on March 22, 1998; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
14congratulate the staff and congregation of St. Patrick Catholic
15Church of Lake Forest and wish them continued joy for years to
16come; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Reverend Laurence Dunn as a symbol of our respect
19and esteem.
