HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Norman Groetzinger
4on his retirement as Executive Director of the Counseling
5Center of Lake View on September 26, 2010; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Norman J. Groetzinger has served as the Executive
7Director of the Counseling Center of Lake View since 1975;
8during his tenure at the Counseling Center, he has also served
9on the boards of Alderman Tunney's Community Directed
10Development Council, the Lake View Action Coalition, the
11Central Lake View Merchants' Association, the Chicago Public
12Welfare Coalition, the Lincoln Belmont Pantry, the Cross Roads
13Fund, and a variety of other philanthropic organizations; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the Counseling Center of
15Lake View has added many programs, including: the Child and
16Adolescent Services Program; Gay Horizons, which is now known
17as the Center on Halsted; the Older Adults Program, a
18home-based program that provides services to the elderly and
19mentally ill; a geriatric psychosocial rehabilitation services
20program called "21st Century Seniors"; the Sojourners Program,
21a case management and "deflection from hospitalization"
22program that serves the homeless and mentally ill; the
23Alternatives to Hospitalization program, which became an

1Assertive Community Treatment program and is now part of the
2Community Support Team; and Projecto Asistencia Social, which
3grew out of the Latino Counseling Program and began offering
4immigration services in the early 1990s; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Prior to serving at the Counseling Center, Mr.
6Groetzinger served with the Mary Crane Nursery School, the
7Logan Square Church, the North Center for Handicapped Children,
8and the Philadelphia Tutorial Project and earned a M.A. in
9Health Policy and Planning from the University of Chicago's
10School of Social Service and Administration, a M.A. in Theology
11from the University of Chicago's Meadville Theological School,
12and a M.A. in East Asian Studies from Yale University; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Prior to coming to Chicago in 1969, he and his
14wife, Linda, served for two years as Peace Corps volunteers in
15the family planning program of the state of Madhya Pradesh in
16central India; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Upon retirement he plans to devote more time to
18attending Chicago Symphony Orchestra concerts and volunteering
19with the Saints, a non-profit organization that provides
20ushering and other services for Chicago and suburban theater,
21dance, and music organizations; therefore, be it

1NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
2congratulate Norman Groetzinger on his retirement and wish him
3the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to Norman Groetzinger as a symbol of our respect and
6esteem.
