HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Alex
4Lopez of Chicago Heights, who passed away on August 27, 2010;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Alex Lopez was born on November 18, 1965, in
7Weslaco, Texas; his parents were Jose M. Lopez and Maria Cruz
8Lopez; after he moved back to Chicago Heights with his family,
9he attended Garfield Elementary School, Washington Junior High
10School, and Bloom High School; he then earned his bachelor's
11degree in finance from Western Illinois University in 1988; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Alex Lopez began his career in politics in 1995,
13when he was elected to the Chicago Heights Park District board;
14he served as a commissioner until 2003; from 2003 to 2006, he
15was employed as the director of Thornwood Apartments; in 2006,
16he was hired to serve as the Chicago Heights Park District
17superintendent; in 2007, he was elected for the Chicago Heights
18City Council as alderman of the 2nd Ward; in April of 2009, he
19was appointed to serve as Mayor of Chicago Heights, where he
20served until his passing; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Alex Lopez is survived by his beloved wife,
22Sandra; his daughters, Victoria and Alexandra Lopez; his

1parents; his brothers, Jose (Judith) Lopez Jr., Armando (Norma)
2Lopez, and Daniel Lopez; he was also the beloved grandson of
3Felipa Rocha and the fond uncle of several nieces and nephews;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Alex Lopez will be fondly remembered by all who
6knew and loved him as a very kind, dedicated, and devoted
7husband and father and as a great son, father, brother, and
8friend; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
11mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Alex
12Lopez; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Alex Lopez as an expression of our
15sympathy.
