HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
3Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the
4death of Jon Alexander Daye, who passed away on July 8, 2010;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Jon Daye was well known by many for being on the
7cutting edge of new forms of media; in the early 1970s, he
8began appearing on talk television, where he chose topics
9regarding the African-American community at large; through his
10shows, he provided a forum for black candidates, judges,
11aldermen and county officials to express their message to the
12community; his guests included former Chicago Mayors Harold
13Washington and Eugene Sawyer; he and his shows were also
14instrumental in the election of U.S. Senator Roland Burris and
15Cook County Board President Todd Stroger; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Jon Daye was a radio personality on WVON Radio's
17"On Target"; he was a television talk show host on Star Planet
18Television Network, Cable Channel 25; he was also the host of
19"Straight Talk", which led to his own show, "News Talk", on
20Rev. Harold Bailey's PCC Network; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Jon Daye was an author and the founder and
22president of several worthwhile awards, including the coveted

1Kizzy Award, which recognized women for their professional
2accomplishments and community service, the Success Awards,
3which recognized men for their distinguished accomplishments,
4and the Black Woman Hall of Fame Foundation, which recognized a
5long list of women luminaries with the Bethune-Tubman Truth
6Award; through his various awards programs, he reached out to
7innumerable local and national "dignitaries" - recipients of
8his awards; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Jon Daye is survived by his fiancee, Bernadine
10Whiteurst; his daughters, Christy Robinson (Dore) and Tracy
11Landing; his grandchildren; and his many other family members
12and friends; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
14NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
15mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jon
16Alexander Daye; and be it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Jon Daye as an expression of our
19sympathy.
