HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to welcome President Abdoulaye
4Wade of Senegal to the State of Illinois as he comes to discuss
5business opportunities between Illinois and Senegal; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Abdoulaye Wade came to power during the elections
7of March 19, 2000, which established Senegal's first party
8political transition; he was re-elected as President of Senegal
9following the elections in February of 2007; and
 
10    WHEREAS, President Wade completed his studies in France at
11the University of Besançon and at the University of Grenoble;
12he worked for many years as a professor at the Faculty of Legal
13and Economic Sciences at the University of Dakar, where he also
14became Dean in 1970, and then went on to become a private
15lawyer and international affairs consultant, where he presided
16over several summits and international working groups; and
 
17    WHEREAS, President Wade has published numerous essays and
18articles on economics, law, political science, and
19mathematics; he is the founder of the Senegalese Democratic
20Party and held a few minister of state posts during 26 years in
21opposition; and

1    WHEREAS, President Wade and a delegation of more than forty
2government and business leaders from Senegal will be in
3Illinois to meet with Illinois business leaders and discuss the
4opportunities for collaboration between Illinois and Senegal;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, It is our pleasure to have President Wade and the
7leaders from Senegal here in Illinois and hope that their many
8meetings have a beneficial outcome for both the State of
9Illinois and Senegal; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12welcome President Abdoulaye Wade to the State of Illinois and
13wish him the best in all his endeavors; and be it further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to President Abdoulaye Wade as a symbol of our
16respect and esteem.
