HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Faith Dremmer was fatally injured last month while
3 on a spring break bike trip in downstate Illinois with 2 of her
4 friends; and
 
5     WHEREAS, The 17-year-old student was cycling with her
6 companions when an elderly driver crossed over the center line
7 and hit the girls head on with a minivan; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Ms. Dremmer was pronounced dead at a hospital in
9 Eldorado, while her friends, both 18, were taken to hospitals
10 in Indiana; and
 
11     WHEREAS, The girls were riding on rural roads about 320
12 miles south of Chicago when the tragic accident occurred; and
 
13     WHEREAS, The Gallatin County Coroner was driving past the
14 site of the accident shortly after it happened; by chance, he
15 was the first person on the scene; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Coroner Tony Cox found all 3 young women
17 unconscious in a ditch and immediately began giving emergency
18 medical attention to the girls before they were taken to the
19 hospital; and

1     WHEREAS, If not for the emergency assistance provided by
2 Coroner Tony Cox, the other 2 young women may not have
3 survived; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6 recognize and thank Gallatin County Coroner Tony Cox for his
7 heroic efforts in saving the lives of 2 young women; and be it
8 further
 
9     RESOLVED, That we designate June 1, 2010 as Tony Cox Day in
10 the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to Gallatin County Coroner Tony Cox.
