HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Thomas Many, Ed.D, has been a superintendent for
3 20 years, serving 6 years in Mount Prospect School District 57
4 and the last 14 years in Kildeer Countryside Community
5 Consolidated School District 96; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Some of his many accomplishments as
7 superintendent include: advocating parental involvement by
8 hosting community-wide Search Conferences, completing parent
9 satisfaction surveys, and overseeing the creation of the Parent
10 to Parent Network; he implemented the Professional Learning
11 Communities model; and he improved the District's overall rank
12 in the State from 55th to 9th; and
 
13     WHEREAS, In addition, he increased the average level of
14 student achievement from 85% to 96.5%, exceeding State
15 standards; he saw an increase of fewer than 60% to almost 80%
16 in reading and over 90% in math of special education students
17 and from 69% to over 85% of ELL students meeting or exceeding
18 State standards in reading; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Under his leadership, District 96 received
20 Illinois Honor Roll Awards for academic excellence and academic
21 improvements; and the four elementary schools under his
22 guidance received the Illinois Association for Health,

1 Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (IAHPERD) Blue
2 Ribbon status for their physical education programs; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Dr. Many has authored many articles on the
4 Professional Learning Community Model and its effect on his
5 District; he has co-authored Learning By Doing, a Handbook for
6 Professional Learning Communities At Work and True North: A
7 Systems Approach to aligning Professional Learning Communities
8 from the Classroom to the Boardroom; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Dr. Many is the father of Beth and Abbie, who are
10 both teachers, and Ben, who is a student at the University of
11 Illinois-Urbana Champaign; Dr. Many plans to move to Colorado
12 after his retirement and speaking nationwide to school
13 districts on the implementation of Professional Learning
14 Communities; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17 congratulate Dr. Many on his retirement and wish him continued
18 success in the future; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to Dr. Thomas Many as a symbol of our respect and
21 esteem.
