HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The call to protect America has led to the use of
3 the Armed Services in the State of Illinois; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Many of the men and women of Illinois are
5 currently engaged in combat overseas; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Many of them are members of the civilian forces
7 (National Guard) and have returned to active duty after
8 completing their enlistment contracts; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Many are now returning and are now qualified for
10 retirement but have not attained the age needed to received
11 retirement benefits; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Many of these individuals have spent more than 20
13 years in service to our country; and
 
14     WHEREAS, They can only receive retirement benefits if they
15 have reached the age of 62 years, and have 20 years of service;
16 and
 
17     WHEREAS, Many die before receiving these benefits; and
 
18     WHEREAS, A graduated payment schedule should be instituted

1 by the federal government, commensurate with years served and
2 age attained at retirement, that would be fair and equitable;
3 and
 
4     WHEREAS, This payment schedule could help those service
5 people live a more productive life after serving our country;
6 therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 must address the needs of those who have served the United
10 States of America through service in its armed forces; and be
11 it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That the United States Congress move immediately
13 to assist the retired servicemen and women of our country with
14 compensation for career service in any branch of the military;
15 and be it further
 
16     RESOLVED, That the United States Congress pass a
17 comprehensive bill to address the financial needs of the
18 servicemen and women who have protected the Constitution of the
19 United States; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
21 presented to the majority and minority leaders of the United

3 Illinois congressional delegation.
