HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor Beverly A. Hardeway
4 Johnson for her years of service to others; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She spends two to four hours every Friday with 15
6 to 25 residents at Heather Manor Nursing Home in Harvey,
7 sharing the Bible, receiving decisions for individuals
8 accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior, conducting Pokeno
9 games, conducting one or two raffles for non-players, and
10 bringing flowers and treats; and
 
11     WHEREAS, She celebrated her 73rd birthday on October 12,
12 2009; and
 
13     WHEREAS, In addition, she drives the church van for her
14 church, The King's Community Church in South Holland; she helps
15 seniors, in need, running errands, providing transportation,
16 and helping with paper work; and
 
17     WHEREAS, She is a graduate of Thornton Township High School
18 and received a B.S. Degree in Commerce (Business
19 Administration) from Roosevelt University in Chicago; she
20 worked in the corporate world from 1956 to 1962; and she wrote
21 lyrics to a song entitled, "Forgive", recorded by the Mercury

1 Label in 1959; and
 
2     WHEREAS, She attended Manhattan Bible Institute in New York
3 City and was ordained a Missionary-Evangelist by the late
4 Arturo Skinner of Deliverance Ministries; she taught
5 elementary school and adult evening school in Atlanta, Georgia
6 from 1962 to 1964; she taught at Emerson Elementary School in
7 Harvey from 1967 to 1979; she owned and operated a neighborhood
8 food store, Sister Beverly's Foods in Harvey from 1974 to 1997;
9 and she registered over 60 people to vote in the last
10 presidential election; and
 
11     WHEREAS, She married Arbyle Johnson on August 8, 1967 and
12 together they have a daughter, Lovely Joslyn; Beverly Johnson
13 is presently employed with Harvey-Dixmoor School District 147,
14 as an eighth grade math teacher at Rosa L. Parks Middle School;
15 therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
18 honor Beverly A. Hardeway Johnson for all her work with the
19 community and her dedication to others; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to Beverly Hardeway Johnson as a symbol of our
22 respect and esteem.
