| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate Tinley Park Fire |
| 4 |
| Marshal Robert Bettenhausen on 57 years of dedicated service |
| 5 |
| and his retirement; and
|
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, He joined the Tinley Park Fire Department in 1952 |
| 7 |
| and served as Fire Chief from 1966 to 1993, when he was named |
| 8 |
| Fire Marshal; under his leadership a full-time Fire Prevention |
| 9 |
| Bureau was established, the Fire Department Training Center was |
| 10 |
| constructed, 9-1-1 emergency service was started, enhanced |
| 11 |
| fire prevention and fire safety regulations were implemented. |
| 12 |
| and the initiation of qualifications for Insurance Service |
| 13 |
| Organization ratings were began; and
|
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, He is a 27-year member of the Fire Advisory Board |
| 15 |
| of the Office of the State Fire Marshal and has served as chair |
| 16 |
| of the Fire Training Advisory Board of the Illinois Fire |
| 17 |
| Service Institute at the University of Illinois; he is an |
| 18 |
| original member of the Volunteer and Combination Officers |
| 19 |
| Section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs and |
| 20 |
| served as treasurer/secretary emeritus; and he is a member of |
| 21 |
| the Illinois Fire Service Task Force Summit; and
|
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, In addition, he is an advisory member of the |
|

| Illinois and Cook County Terrorism Task Forces; he is an |
| 2 |
| organizer of a committee to form the United States Fire Corps; |
| 3 |
| he is a member of the Illinois Safety Committee; he also served |
| 4 |
| as the International Association of Fire Chiefs representative |
| 5 |
| for the National Fire Protection Association's 1720 Committee |
| 6 |
| Deployment Standards and on the 2001-2002 Board of Directors; |
| 7 |
| and
|
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He has received Lifetime Achievement Awards from |
| 9 |
| both the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association and the National |
| 10 |
| Volunteer Fire Council; Fire Chiefs Magazine named him the 1997 |
| 11 |
| Fire Chief of the Year; he received a Chief Fire Officer |
| 12 |
| designation in 2003, 2006, and 2009; and he received the Tinley |
| 13 |
| Park Chamber of Commerce Special Recognition Award, the |
| 14 |
| Sertoma's Service to Mankind Award, and the Tinley Park |
| 15 |
| Veterans Commission's Service Award; and
|
| 16 |
| WHEREAS, He is a life member of the Tinley Park Historical |
| 17 |
| Society, a member of Tinley Park's United Methodist Church, and |
| 18 |
| president of the Tinley Park Memorial Cemetery Association; and
|
| 19 |
| WHEREAS, He is supported by his wife, Colleen; his sons, |
| 20 |
| Brad, Matthew, David and his wife, Jill; and his grandchildren, |
| 21 |
| James, Tyler, Gunnar, and Sophia; therefore, be it
