HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The 18-hole golf course at the Aurora Country Club
3 was designed by renowned architects William Boice Langford and
4 Thomas Bendelow; the country club features tight tree-lined
5 fairways, strategic bunkering, and small undulating greens;
6 the course provides a challenging experience for even the most
7 skilled players; as the course stands in its 93rd year of
8 existence, it is seen as an icon throughout the Aurora area;
9 and
 
10     WHEREAS, The Aurora Country Club took center stage in the
11 summer of 2008, when it hosted the Old Second Bank Junior
12 Championship from July 20 to July 24; having gained notoriety
13 as an excellent example of good golf and a well managed course,
14 the Club took the international stage when it was selected to
15 be the third golf course in America to host the PING Junior
16 Solheim Cup; and
 
17     WHEREAS, The PING Junior Solheim Cup is the junior version
18 of the Solheim Cup, a biennial golf tournament for professional
19 women golfers contested by teams representing Europe and the
20 United States; the PING Junior Solheim Cup features the top 12
21 amateur female golfers in the Unites States versus the top 12
22 amateurs from Europe, with both teams comprised of girls
23 between 13 and 18 years of age and chosen based on rankings

1 from multiple sources and previous amateur tournament
2 finishes; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Since the inception of the PING Junior Solheim Cup
4 in 2002, the event alternates locations between the United
5 States and Europe every other year; and
 
6     WHEREAS, The United States PING Junior Solheim Cup teams
7 have always been victorious during tournaments in the United
8 States; the 2009 team continued that trend at the scenic Aurora
9 Country Club with a 15.5-8.5 victory; and
 
10     WHEREAS, As a host of the PING Junior Solheim Cup, the
11 Aurora Country Club became a destination of
12 friendship-building between nations, with the competition
13 hosting players from the Czech Republic, England, France,
14 Germany, Ireland, Norway, Scotland, Spain, Sweden,
15 Switzerland, and the United States; and
 
16     WHEREAS, The Aurora Country Club hosted such a caliber of
17 amateur golfers as to inspire spectators, provide role models
18 for the youth of the area, and serve as a demonstration of the
19 face of the United States to future world leaders from the many
20 key countries that sent their golfers to join the European
21 team; and

1     WHEREAS, The Board of Directors of the Aurora Country Club,
2 led by President Dave Nadler, played a prominent role in
3 hosting the PING Junior Solheim Cup; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
6 congratulate and applaud the Aurora Country Club and all those
7 individuals who made it possible to host the PING Junior
8 Solheim Cup, a tournament used as a vessel to facilitate
9 international friendships and proves that the successes of
10 individual golfers are less important than the opportunity to
11 showcase the importance of team-building and sportsmanship;
12 and be it further
 
13     RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
14 presented to Aurora Country Club Board of Directors President
15 Dave Nadler, the members of the Aurora Country Club Board of
16 Directors, Club Manager Robert White, Assistant Club Manager
17 Peggy Hess, Golf Course Superintendent John Gurke, Membership
18 Director Gayle Maple, and Golf Professional Aaron Sabres.
