HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Illinois
4 Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Joshua Melton of Germantown,
5 who was killed in action in Kandahar, Afghanistan on June 19,
6 2009; and
 
7     WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton was born on October 8, 1982 in
8 Breese to Michael Melton and Debbie Rodgers; he married Larissa
9 Melton on July 22, 2006 at St. Boniface Church in Germantown;
10 and
 
11     WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton served his country with pride
12 and distinction as a member of the Illinois Army National
13 Guard, joining a year before his graduation from Central
14 Community High School in Breese; he was on his second
15 deployment after serving in Iraq from December of 2004 to March
16 of 2006; and
 
17     WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton enjoyed spending time with his
18 family and friends, especially his daughter, Aubrey; he was
19 also an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the Carlyle
20 VFW Post 3523; and
 
21     WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton was preceded in death by his

1 grandmother, Clarice Reddick; his grandfather, Jinx Warren;
2 his uncles, Dennis Melton and Tim Hitpas; and his aunt, Doris
3 Legate; and
 
4     WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton is survived by his wife, Larissa
5 Melton; his daughter, Aubrey Melton; his parents; his brother,
6 Dustin (Lauren) Melton; his father-in-law, Steve Verdeyen; his
7 mother-in-law, Carolyn (Rick) Pennington; his sister-in-law,
8 Andrea (friend, Nate Richter) Verdeyen; his grandparents,
9 Elmer and Nadine Melton and Bill Reddick; and his many aunts,
10 uncles, cousins, and friends; and
 
11     WHEREAS, SSG Joshua Melton served as a model of patriotism,
12 courage, and integrity for the people of the State of Illinois;
13 therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
15 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
16 we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
17 Illinois Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Joshua Melton; and
18 be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the family of SSG Joshua Melton as an expression
21 of our sympathy.
