HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the staff,
4 students, and faculty of the Illinois Mathematics and Science
5 Academy on being named the top school in the nation for science
6 education in a program sponsored by the Intel Foundation; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Each year, only one high school across the country
8 is selected for the Intel Schools of Distinction honor; the
9 Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy is a State-supported
10 boarding school for top high school students in math and
11 science across Illinois; about 650 students attend the school
12 at Sullivan and Randall roads on Aurora's West Side; and
 
13     WHEREAS, The annual awards recognize U.S. schools that
14 implement innovative math and science programs and serve as
15 role models for other schools; the Intel Foundation and
16 sponsoring companies distribute $1 million in grants and awards
17 to winning schools; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy will
19 receive a $10,000 cash grant from the Intel Foundation and an
20 award package including curriculum materials, professional
21 development resources, and hardware and software valued at more
22 than $100,000; and

1     WHEREAS, Each school goes through a process to apply for
2 the award, including a written application and meetings with
3 its staff, board members, and students in a non-scripted
4 setting; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
7 congratulate the staff, students, and faculty at the Illinois
8 Mathematics and Science Academy on this award and wish them
9 well in all their future endeavors; and be it further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to Max McGee, president of the Illinois Mathematics
12 and Science Academy, as a symbol of our respect.
