HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of United
4 States Army Sergeant Christopher Paul Abeyta of Midlothian, who
5 was killed while serving his country in Afghanistan on March
6 15, 2009; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He was born on April 10, 1985 and loved Big Bird,
8 the Teenage Ninja Mutant Turtles, and the Power Rangers; he
9 loved animals, was taught to fish at an early age, and played
10 T-ball; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Christopher was a graduate of Bremen High School
12 Class of 2003, where he participated in football, track, and
13 was a member of the conference champion wrestling squad his
14 senior year; during his high school years he worked at
15 McDonald's and KMart; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He enlisted in the Army National Guard and went to
17 boot camp in Kentucky immediately after high school; in
18 September of 2003 he was deployed to Iraq; he returned home in
19 2004 and made the decision to make the Army National Guard his
20 career choice, and was deployed to Afghanistan in August of
21 2008; and

1     WHEREAS, Christopher's grandfather, the late Robert F.
2 Smith, served in the United States Army in the Korean War and
3 his uncle, Robert M. Smith, served in the United States Army
4 during the Vietnam War; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was the loving son of Paul and Barbara (nee
6 Smith); the only grandson of Elvira Abeyta and Jim Vezina; the
7 beloved nephew of Tom (Chris) Smith, Tracy (Dave) Lohmar,
8 Robert M. (Maureen) Smith, T.J. (Molly) Smith, Margo (Rene)
9 Canales, Peilo Garcia, Victor Garcia, Tony Garcia, Lonny
10 Abeyta, Fred Garcia, Roy Garcia, and Sandy (Junior) Scardini;
11 the dear cousin of Kristy Barber, Emma Canales, Erica Canales,
12 Ariel Abeyta, Steven Smith, Carrie Smith, Michael Smith, Bill
13 Paul, Samantha Paul, Mathew Smith, Patrick Smith, and Freddy
14 Garcia; therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
17 mourn, along with a grateful nation and the people of the State
18 of Illinois, his family, and his friends, the passing of United
19 States Army Sergeant Christopher Paul Abeyta; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That we honor the memory of United States Army
21 Sergeant Christopher Paul Abeyta and his willingness to serve
22 his country, which led to him making the ultimate sacrifice;
23 and be it further

1     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2 presented to the family of United States Army Sergeant
3 Christopher Paul Abeyta as a symbol of our respect and sincere
4 sympathy.
