HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, In August of 1859 a group of unaffiliated dental
3 associations joined to form what would become the American
4 Dental Association; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Since that date the American Dental Association
6 has been working to improve the public's oral health and
7 promoting dentistry, supporting initiatives to improve access
8 to oral health services for all, and emphasizing the benefits
9 of disease prevention through support of community prevention
10 initiatives and good oral hygiene; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Access to good oral health is a vital element of
12 overall health and the American Dental Association works to
13 improve access to those essential oral health services; and
 
14     WHEREAS, The American Dental Association works to improve
15 dental technologies and therapies through research and
16 adherence to sound scientific principles, causing the Journal
17 of the American Dental Association to be recognized
18 internationally as a leader in peer-reviewed dental science;
19 and
 
20     WHEREAS, The American Dental Association encourages its
21 more than 157,000 member dentists across the nation to donate

1 their time, resources and services to provide care to those in
2 need; and
 
3     WHEREAS, The members of the American Dental Association
4 have responded to that call, donating more than $2 billion
5 worth of charitable and uncompensated care annually to
6 underserved individuals; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The members of the American Dental Association had
8 the vision to headquarter their organization in the City of
9 Chicago; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 congratulate the American Dental Association for its 150th
13 anniversary and for the work it does to improve the public's
14 oral health and provide access to oral health care to all
15 Americans, especially children in need; for the tens of
16 thousands of dentists across the nation who volunteer their
17 time and resources to provide charitable and uncompensated care
18 to those in need; and for its efforts to keep American
19 dentistry the best in the world; and be it further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to the American Dental Association as a symbol of our
22 respect and esteem.
