SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
110 ILCS 47/10

    Amends the Fire Sprinkler Dormitory Act. Provides that fire sprinkler systems are required in the dormitories of post-secondary educational institutions by 2016 (instead of 2013). Provides that any post-secondary educational institution that installs fire sprinkler systems prior to the establishment of a fire sprinkler dormitory revolving loan program and the adoption of program rules by both the Illinois Finance Authority and the Office of the State Fire Marshal shall use generally accepted national standards, such as those of the National Fire Protection Association, for such sprinkler systems. Provides that any program rules adopted by the Illinois Finance Authority or the Office of the State Fire Marshal shall use those same standards and may not require higher standards for work already performed. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Fire Sprinkler Dormitory Act is amended by
5 changing Section 10 as follows:
 
6     (110 ILCS 47/10)
7     Sec. 10. Fire sprinkler systems required. Subject to the
8 establishment of a fire sprinkler dormitory revolving loan
9 program under Section 15 of this Act, fire sprinkler systems
10 are required in the dormitories of all post-secondary
11 educational institutions by 2016 2013. This includes current
12 structures as well as newly constructed dormitories. Nothing in
13 this Act may be construed to abrogate any statute, rule, or
14 ordinance requiring that a fire extinguisher be present in a
15 dormitory.
16     Any post-secondary educational institution subject to this
17 Act that installs fire sprinkler systems prior to the
18 establishment of a fire sprinkler dormitory revolving loan
19 program under Section 15 of this Act and the adoption of
20 program rules by both the Illinois Finance Authority and the
21 Office of the State Fire Marshal shall use generally accepted
22 national standards, such as those of the National Fire
23 Protection Association, for such sprinkler systems. Any
