SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Appropriation for Military Scholarships Act to require a General Revenue Fund recommendation by the Governor in the annual budget sufficient to reimburse institutions of higher learning in this State for not charging students tuition and fees under the Veteran Grant program, the Illinois National Guard Grant and Naval Militia Grant program, and the MIA/POW Scholarship program. Effective July 1, 2009.

1     AN ACT concerning education.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the
5 Appropriation for Military Scholarships Act.
 
6     Section 5. Annual budget; recommendation. Beginning with
7 the Budget for fiscal year 2011, the Governor shall include a
8 General Revenue Fund recommendation in the annual Budget
9 sufficient to reimburse institutions of higher learning in this
10 State for not charging students tuition and fees under the
11 Veteran Grant program, the Illinois National Guard Grant and
12 Naval Militia Grant program, and the MIA/POW Scholarship
13 program.
 
14     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1,
15 2009.
