SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
815 ILCS 505/2HH

    Amends the Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act. Changes provisions concerning the billing and collection practices of electric service providers so that they apply to "utility service providers" rather than "electric service providers". Provides that credit bureaus that receive personal consumer information from a utility service provider may not use that information to determine credit scores.

1     AN ACT concerning business.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business
5 Practices Act is amended by changing Section 2HH as follows:
 
6     (815 ILCS 505/2HH)
7     Sec. 2HH. Billing and collection practices of utility
8 electric service providers. Each person selling generation,
9 transmission, distribution, metering, or billing of any
10 utility electric service shall display the name, the toll-free
11 telephone number of such service provider, and a description of
12 the services provided on all bills submitted to subscribers of
13 such services. All personal information relating to the
14 subscriber of generation, transmission, distribution,
15 metering, or billing of any utility electric service shall be
16 maintained by the service providers solely for the purpose of
17 generating the bill for such services, and shall not be
18 divulged to any other persons with the exception of credit
19 bureaus, collection agencies, and persons licensed to market
20 utility services electric service in the State of Illinois,
21 without the written consent of the subscriber. Credit bureaus
22 that receive personal consumer information from a utility
