SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
510 ILCS 5/18.1   from Ch. 8, par. 368.1

    Amends the Animal Control Act. Provides that the owner or keeper of a dog is liable to a person for all damages caused by the dog pursuing, chasing, worrying, wounding, injuring, or killing any sheep, goats, cattle, horses, mules, poultry, ratites, swine, or companion animals (now, there is no liability for damages caused to companion animals). Defines "companion animal" as a dog or cat that is treated as a pet. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning animals.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Animal Control Act is amended by changing
5 Section 18.1 as follows:
 
6     (510 ILCS 5/18.1)  (from Ch. 8, par. 368.1)
7     Sec. 18.1. The owner or keeper of a dog is liable to a
8 person for all damages caused by the dog pursuing, chasing,
9 worrying, wounding, injuring, or killing any sheep, goats,
10 cattle, horses, mules, poultry, ratites, or swine, or companion
11 animals belonging to that person. For purposes of this Section,
12 "companion animal" means a dog or cat that is treated as a pet.

14     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
15 becoming law.
