SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
New Act

    Creates the Local Government Compliance with Federal Immigration Law Act. Provides that the officials, personnel, and agents of a municipality or county shall fully comply with federal immigration law. Provides that the Act does not authorize a municipality or county to restrict its officials, personnel, or agents from obtaining and maintaining information regarding the immigration status of an individual. Requires a municipality or county to implement the Act in a manner that (i) is consistent with federal immigration law and (ii) protects the civil rights of U.S. citizens and aliens. Provides that the Act does not authorize a municipality or county to prohibit its officials, personnel, or agents from (i) rendering emergency medical care or any other public benefit mandated by federal or State law or (ii) reporting criminal activity.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 1. Short title. This Act may be cited as the Local
5 Government Compliance with Federal Immigration Law Act.
 
6     Section 5. Compliance with federal immigration law.
7     (a) All officials, personnel, and agents of a municipality
8 or county shall fully comply with and support the enforcement
9 of federal law prohibiting the entry into or presence or
10 residence in the United States of illegal aliens in violation
11 of federal immigration law.
12     (b) Nothing in this Act authorizes a municipality or county
13 to restrict its officials, personnel, or agents from
14 requesting, obtaining, sending, receiving, exchanging, or
15 maintaining information regarding the immigration status of an
16 individual.
17     (c) A municipality or county shall implement the
18 requirements and obligations of this Act in a manner that:
19         (1) is fully consistent with federal law regulating
20     immigration; and
21         (2) protects the civil rights of all United States
22     citizens and aliens.
23     (d) Nothing in this Act authorizes a municipality or county

4         (2) reporting criminal activity to a law enforcement
