SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Leonard G. "Spunky" Patton Jr. of West
4 Frankfort, who passed away on November 9, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. was born on August 21, 1945 in
6 West Frankfort; his parents were L. Goebel Patton and Eileen H.
7 Howell; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. was a graduate of Southern
9 Illinois University; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. served his country with pride
11 and distinction as a member of the United States Army; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. was the owner and operator of
13 the Howell Insurance Agency in West Frankfort, which was
14 founded in 1914; a member of the third generation of the
15 family-owned agency, he became fully involved in the business
16 in the early 1970s; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. was an avid supporter of youth
18 and Redbird athletics; the youth tackle program Mr. Patton
19 helped to create enjoyed its inaugural season in the fall of
20 1974 and lasted for ten years, before he helped to bring it to

1 life once more in the late 1990s; he also coached girl's
2 softball in tandem with Frankfort Community Park legend Bill
3 McKee and helped bring about a grade school flag football
4 program in the mid 1990s; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. was preceded in death by his
6 mother, Eileen Lucas, and his sister, Colleen Hickey; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Leonard Patton Jr. is survived by his wife, Susan;
8 his sons, Jason Patton and Ryan Patton; his daughters, Trish
9 Blank and her husband, Bill, and their children, Ria and
10 William, and Torie Patton; his father, L. Goebel Patton; and
11 his sister, Penelope Tippy and her husband, Roger; therefore,
12 be it
 
13     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
14 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
15 his family and friends, the passing of Leonard G. "Spunky"
16 Patton Jr.; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Leonard Patton Jr. as an expression
19 of our sympathy.
