SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of United States Army Private First Class
4 Leonard J. Gulczynski of Carol Stream, who was killed while
5 serving his country in Iraq on September 17, 2008; and
 
6     WHEREAS, He was assigned to 610th Engineer Support Company,
7 14th Engineer Battalion, 555th Engineer Brigade; the company
8 deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in March of
9 2008; Private Gulczynski initially entered military service on
10 June 7, 2007; after completing advanced individual training in
11 his military occupational specialty of 21E: Heavy Construction
12 Equipment Operator at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, he reported
13 to Fort Lewis on November 21, 2007; and
 
14     WHEREAS, His civilian education includes his graduation
15 from Spring Trail Elementary School in Carol Stream, Eastview
16 Middle School, and Bartlett High School in 2007; his military
17 awards and decorations include the National Defense Service
18 Medal and the Army Service Ribbon; and
 
19     WHEREAS, After high school he followed the example of his
20 grandfather and father and joined the United States Army; he
21 was described as an outgoing young man with a great laugh and
22 great smile; and

1     WHEREAS, He excelled at volleyball and football while a
2 student at Bartlett High School; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Private Leonard Gulczynski is survived by his
4 parents, Mike and Jackie Gulczynski; his sister, Jacki; and his
5 brother, Mike Jr.; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor the memory of
8 United States Army Private First Class Leonard J. Gulczynski
9 and his willingness to serve his country, which led to him
10 making the ultimate sacrifice; and be it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of United States Army Private First
13 Class Leonard J. Gulczynski as a symbol of our sympathy and our
14 respect.
