SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Louis J. "Corky" Sehring of St. Charles,
4 who passed away June 13, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Louis J. "Corky" Sehring ran First National Bank
6 of Batavia, and it was later sold to Harris Bank; Mr. Sehring
7 remained president of Harris Batavia and eventually became
8 president of Harris St. Charles and Harris Geneva as well; from
9 1994 through 2005, as president of Harris St. Charles, Mr.
10 Sehring doubled the total assets of the bank and he also
11 oversaw the construction and opening of the South Elgin branch;
12 and
 
13     WHEREAS, After his retirement in February 2007, he
14 continued to serve on the Harris St. Charles-Batavia Region
15 Advisory Board of Directors; he was born and raised in Joliet
16 and attended St. John's Military Academy in Delafield,
17 Wisconsin for two years before he transferred to Joliet Central
18 High School, where he graduated; he went on to earn a
19 bachelor's degree in history from Louisiana State University in
20 1965; after graduation, he spent a few months traveling Europe;
21 and
 
22     WHEREAS, When he returned, he attended Northern Illinois

1 University where he met his wife and earned a master's degree
2 in marketing and finance in 1968; the couple married in 1970;
3 he joined Peat Marwick Mitchell in Chicago as an auditor but
4 returned to Joliet where he joined Louis Joliet Bank as a loan
5 officer; he became president of East Joliet Bank in 1974; he
6 attended Rutgers University, where he received an advanced
7 degree in banking in 1975; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Sehring served on the board of directors of
9 Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet for 30 years and held the
10 positions of secretary, treasurer, and chairman of the
11 Strategic Finance Committee; he also held the position of
12 honorary chairman of the board for two months in 2007; he was
13 the owner of several Harley Davidson motorcycles and liked to
14 bike, shoot, ski, golf, sail, and fish; Mr. Sehring also was on
15 the board of trustees and a former chairman of the board of St.
16 John's Northwestern Military Academy, director of the
17 Mid-Valley Neighborhood Improvement Association, and a member
18 of the St. Charles Housing Commission in St. Charles; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Mr. Sehring is survived by his wife, Cheri; his
20 two daughters, Molly and Kelly; and a sister, Sue Hutchison;
21 therefore, be it
 
22     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
23 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with

1 his family and friends, the passing of Louis J. "Corky"
2 Sehring; and be it further
 
3     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the family of Louis J. "Corky" Sehring as an
5 expression of our sympathy.
