SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Carl J. Tomaso of Woodstock, who passed
4 away on June 25, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Carl Tomaso was born on April 25, 1952 in Chicago;
6 he married Nancy J. Kurzeja on July 18, 1981 at St. Bartholomew
7 Church in Chicago; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Carl Tomaso earned his bachelor's degree from
9 DePaul University in 1975, majoring in history, education, and
10 physical education; he earned his master's degree in public
11 administration from DePaul University in 1983; he met his wife
12 in 1979, while they were both teaching at Gordon Tech High
13 School; he was a former employee at O'Hare Airport; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Carl Tomaso had a long and distinguished career in
15 government; he began his career in city management with the
16 City of Chicago; he then became the assistant to the city
17 manager for the City of Elmhurst; he also served as village
18 administrator for the Village of Cary; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Carl Tomaso served with pride and distinction as
20 the village manager of Huntley for 11 years; guiding the
21 village through a period of tremendous growth and development,

1 he was instrumental in the construction of Huntley Village
2 Hall, which was completed in 2006; he was working with
3 officials to acquire a long-sought full interchange at Illinois
4 47 and Interstate 90, as well as widening Illinois 47, at the
5 time of his unfortunate passing; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Carl Tomaso loved learning about history,
7 especially about World War II; he served as a certified
8 basketball official for 25 years for the IHSA and was a true
9 Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Carl Tomaso was preceded in death by his parents
11 and his father-in-law, Joseph Kurzeja; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Carl Tomaso is survived by his wife, Nancy K.
13 Tomaso; his sons, Joe Tomaso and Dan Tomaso; his sister, Karen
14 (Phil) Dickert; his mother-in-law, Charlotte Kurzeja; his
15 brother-in-law, Joe (Stacy) Kurzeja; and his nephews, Brad,
16 Justin, Keith, Kyle, and J.D.; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Carl Tomaso will be remembered by all who knew and
18 loved him as a loving family man, a devoted Catholic, and an
19 honest and hard-working administrator; therefore, be it
 
20     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
21 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with

1 his family and friends, the passing of Carl Tomaso; and be it
2 further
 
3     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4 presented to the family of Carl Tomaso as an expression of our
5 sympathy.
