SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Erika Prince, who passed away on June 1,
4 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Erika Prince was born on June 28, 1975 in Chicago;
6 her parents were Curtis Prince and the late Diane Beck; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Erika Prince attended Arthur Dixon Elementary
8 School and Hyde Park Academy High School, where she graduated
9 with the Class of 1993; she then received her bachelor's degree
10 in Speech Pathology at Jackson State University in 1994, her
11 master's degree in Speech Language and Hearing Science from
12 Governors State University in 1997, and her second master's
13 degree in Special Education from Roosevelt University in 2006;
14 and
 
15     WHEREAS, Erika Prince was employed as a Special Education
16 Teacher at Arthur Dixon Elementary School in Chicago; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Erika Prince attended the Salem Baptist Church of
18 Chicago, where she served as a member of the Young Adult Choir
19 and MIME, and worked as a Spiritual Intercessor; she was also a
20 member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., the Xi Nu Omega
21 Chapter in Chicago and the Order of the Eastern Star; and

1     WHEREAS, Erika Prince enjoyed helping her students, the
2 word of God, exercising, and music; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Erika Prince was the loving daughter of Diane Beck
4 and Curtis and Carol Prince; the fond sister of Curtis Prince
5 II, Monique Beck, and Carla Gilbert; and the beloved mother of
6 Malani and Damari Hughes; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Erika Prince will be remembered by all who knew
8 and loved her as a giving, loyal, and kind mother and teacher
9 whose piety was unparalleled; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12 her family and friends, the passing of Erika Prince; and be it
13 further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Erika Prince as an expression of our
16 sympathy.
