SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Charles C. "Chuck" Oelrich of Belleville,
4 who passed away on March 23, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Charles Oelrich was born May 15, 1932, in
6 Belleville; he grew up in Belleville and attended Cathedral
7 High School; he was a 1954 graduate of St. Louis University
8 with a degree in accounting; he served in the United States Air
9 Force as an active and reserve officer; he also served as a
10 liaison officer for the United States Air Force Academy; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Mr. Oelrich was employed by IBM, as an independent
12 insurance agent, and he worked as an administrative assistant
13 to the Secretary of State of Illinois; he served as Belleville
14 Township Supervisor from 1993 to 1997; he was a longtime member
15 of St. Luke's Parish in Belleville, and a member of the St.
16 Luke's Men's Club; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Mr. Oelrich was also active in many civic and
18 social organizations, including the Belleville School District
19 118 School Board, the Belleville Jaycees, the St. Clair County
20 Cancer Society, Toastmaster's International, the Okaw Valley
21 Council Catholic Committee on Scouting, Boy Scout Troop 69, the
22 Belleville Democratic organization as a precinct committeeman,

1 the East Side Life Underwriters, the Belleville Area Humane
2 Society, the Knights of Columbus Belleville Council 1028, the
3 Southside Improvement Association, the Belleville Sister
4 Cities Organization, the Serra Club of St. Clair County, the
5 Sons of the American Revolution, the Mayors Prayer Breakfast
6 Committee, VFW Post 1739, the American Legion, Catholic War
7 Veterans Post 370, the Korean War Veterans CK&L of I Council
8 21, and the Belleville Men's Sports Group; and
 
9     WHEREAS, His hobbies included 60 years of bowling, golfing,
10 card club, and traveling, as he visited all 50 states and over
11 50 countries; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Albert
13 and Ida, nee Harvey, Oelrich; his sister, Alberta A. Woods; his
14 five brothers, Harvey, Bert, Bob, Jim, and John Oelrich; and
15 his granddaughter, Megan Oelrich; and
 
16     WHEREAS, He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years,
17 Marie Louise, nee Holdener, Oelrich, whom he married October
18 15, 1955, at St. Philip Catholic Church in East St. Louis; his
19 daughter, Eileen Marie Hisel; his five sons, Jerome A. Oelrich,
20 Ronald J. (Sue) Oelrich, Kevin M. (Gina) Oelrich, Larry C.
21 (Nancy) Oelrich, and Matt J. (Angie) Oelrich; his 11
22 grandchildren, Christina Oelrich, Andrew and Stephanie
23 Oelrich, Marie, James, and Monique Hisel, Renae and Trent

1 Oelrich, and Jacqueline, Madeline, and Brandon Oelrich; his
2 five step-grandchildren, Roey (Heather) Draper, Cassandra
3 Draper, and Kristi, Tami, and Kyle Poettker; his sisters-in-law
4 and brothers-in-law, Lois Oelrich, Bernice and Omer Goodwin,
5 Dr. Paul and Loretta Holdener, Margie and Bill Dick, and Doris
6 and Leonard Black; and his loving nieces and nephews;
7 therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10 his family and friends, the passing of Charles "Chuck" Oelrich;
11 and be it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Charles "Chuck" Oelrich as a symbol
14 of our sincere sympathy.
