SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Dick Pierce, a longtime resident of
4 Lisle, who passed away on January 14, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Dick Pierce was born September 4, 1922 in
6 Buchanan, Michigan; and
 
7     WHEREAS, He served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States
8 Army Air Corps during World War II; he graduated from North
9 Central College and Northern Illinois University, and taught
10 and coached at Washington Junior High School, District 203,
11 Naperville for over 20 years; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He received the Teacher of the Year (Red Apple)
13 Award after former CNN and CBS news anchor Paula Zahn, a former
14 student, wrote a letter praising his abilities; as a testament
15 to his love of teaching, he volunteered for many years as a
16 tutor for Little Friends; he played the stand-up bass with Roy
17 Rubenstein and the Chicago Hot Six jazz band, enjoyed flying,
18 playing tennis, writing, and taking photographs; and
 
19     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his sister, Carol
20 Lamport; and

1     WHEREAS, The passing of Dick Pierce will be deeply felt by
2 those who knew and loved him, especially his loving wife of 27
3 years, Shirley Pierce; his wonderful children, Sherie Lin (Bob)
4 Huber, Stevie Pierce, Charlie "Allen" (Linda) Pierce, Renee
5 Feldmeier, and John (Mary) Henderson; his special
6 grandchildren, Lindsay Huber, Christofer, Matthew, and
7 Alexandria Feldmeier, Jeremy, Corey, and Andy Pierce, and
8 Gabrielle Henderson; his two cherished great-grandchildren;
9 his dear sister, Mary Ellen Jones; and his brother, Gael
10 Pierce; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13 his family and friends, the passing of Dick Pierce; and be it
14 further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of Dick Pierce as a symbol of our
17 sincere sympathy.
