SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Nadia Johnson Barnerd Miller of Godfrey,
4 who passed away on January 8, 2008; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, on
6 September 3, 1920, and was one of seven children of Alfonso and
7 Mary (Vandiver) Johnson; she moved to Alton as a young woman
8 and married Allen Barnerd, a partner in Barleffs Men's Store;
9 he preceded her in death in 1970; and
 
10     WHEREAS, On February 20, 1976, she married James Rex
11 Miller; together they enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and
12 enjoying time with family and friends; they spent winters in
13 Estero, Florida, and summers in Godfrey; he preceded her in
14 death in 1995; and
 
15     WHEREAS, She was actively involved in her community, and
16 she received the Community Service League Silver Bowl in 1968
17 for the greatest number of volunteer hours; her flower garden
18 was a passion and she would walk visitors through it; her yard
19 was on the Pride Garden Tour in 1986; she also loved golf and
20 was a member of Lockhaven Country Club and an officer of the
21 women's group there; for four years, she was the champion of
22 the nine hole golf league; and she loved games, cards,

1 crafting, tole painting, cross stitching, quilting, knitting,
2 and needle pointing; and
 
3     WHEREAS, Nadia Miller was preceded in death by her
4 husbands, her parents, seven siblings, and a grandson, Brian
5 Saenz; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Nadia Miller is survived by her two step families;
7 her daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Doug Wohlert and Sue
8 and Jeff Weber; her sons and daughters-in-law, Pat and Meg
9 Miller and Dick and Debbie Miller; her eleven grandchildren and
10 spouses, Molly and Sean Jones, Megan Wohlert, Elizabeth and Ken
11 Barringer, Noony and Peter Gruben, Stephen and Allison Weber,
12 Andy, Maggie, and Jack Miller, Tom and Kim Miller, Greg and
13 Meghan Miller, and Mark and Ellen Miller; her nine great
14 grandchildren; her son-in-law, Henry Saenz, and grandchildren,
15 Diane, Jim, and Mark; and her two nieces, Londa Kreps and
16 Bonita Johnson; therefore, be it
 
17     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19 her family and friends, the passing of Nadia Johnson Barnerd
20 Miller; and be it further
 
21     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to the family of Nadia Johnson Barnerd Miller as a
