SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Gerald "Jerry" Bailey of Herrin, who
4 passed away on November 26, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Gerald Bailey was born on the Fourth of July in
6 Kansas City, Kansas, in 1918 to the Reverend Fred M. and Ethel
7 G. Bailey; Gerald married Dorothy Royse of Clayton, Missouri,
8 on March 5, 1943, and they shared 63 years of marriage; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Gerald Bailey was a 1941 graduate of Washington
10 University School of Business; after graduation he attended
11 United States Army Officers Candidate School, where he obtained
12 the rank of captain before his discharge in 1945; Gerald and
13 his family moved to Herrin in 1956, where he became the owner
14 and operator of the Standard Oil Station until his retirement;
15 and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was dedicated to First United Methodist Church
17 in Herrin, where he served as trustee; he was also very active
18 in the Herrin United Way, where he was past president and drive
19 chairman; he also was a member of the Herrin Rotary Club and
20 the Herrin Chamber of Commerce, and in 2004 was named Herrin's
21 "Citizen of the Year"; his 75 years of commitment to Scouting
22 was unsurpassed and he received every award available from the

1 Boy Scouts of America, including Eagle Scout and Order of the
2 Silver Beaver; the Little Grassy Pine Ridge Scout Camp Lodge
3 was dedicated and named "Bailey Lodge" in honor of Gerald and
4 Dorothy Bailey in August of 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Gerald Bailey ws preceded in death by his parents;
6 his wife, Dorothy Royse Bailey; his brother; his sisters; his
7 brother-in-law; and his son-in-law; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Gerald Bailey is survived by three daughters and
9 one son-in-law, Susan and Richard Hampton, Kay Crump, and
10 Beverly; his three grandchildren, including grandson, Shane
11 Hampton and his wife, Erin, granddaughter, Rachel Hampton
12 Gebhardt, and grandson, Brian Crump; his four
13 great-grandchildren, Gabrielle and Zachary Gebhardt and Connor
14 and Carson Hampton; his sister-in-law, Francis Blackwell; and
15 several nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
16     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
17 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
18 his family and friends, the passing of Gerald Bailey; and be it
19 further
 
20     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
21 presented to the family of Gerald Bailey as a symbol of our
22 sincere sympathy.
