SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Jerome Lilly of Peoria, who passed away
4 on December 8, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jerome Lilly was born on April 20, 1954 in Peoria;
6 his parents were Thomas and Fannie (Young) Lilly; he married
7 Kimberly Currie on November 4, 1989 in Bloomington; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Jerome Lilly was a 1972 graduate of Richwoods High
9 School, where, in 1997, his football team was inducted into the
10 Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Jerome Lilly had a long and distinguished career
12 in mass transit; he began his career in 1988 as a part-time bus
13 driver for CityLink, working his way to full-time status a
14 short time later; in the 1990's, he was promoted to supervisor
15 at CityLink and was elected to the position of vice president
16 of Amalgamated Transit Union Peoria Local 416; in 2000, he was
17 named CityLink's new assistant general manager; on September 7,
18 2007, he was appointed to head CityLink's day-to-day
19 operations, which was made official by the organization's board
20 in October of 2007; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Jerome Lilly was instrumental in many changes to

1 the CityLink Transit Center, such as the installation of
2 security cameras on the City of Peoria's buses, improved
3 relations between the union and CityLink's administration, and
4 a better reputation for the company; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Jerome Lilly was active with many community
6 organizations; he was a member of the board of the Peoria
7 Tri-County Urban League and the Illinois Public Transportation
8 Association; he was a member of the Peoria North Rotary Club;
9 he was also a member of Ward Chapel A.M.E. Church, where he
10 served as a trustee and as chairman of the Men's Club; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Jerome Lilly was preceded in death by his mother,
12 Fannie, and his brother, Thomas Lilly Jr.; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Jerome Lilly is survived by his wife, Kimberly;
14 his sons, Jerome David Lilly II and Elton Raul Mackey II; his
15 daughter, Lauren Melissa-Obnetta Thomas; his father, Thomas
16 Lilly Sr.; his brothers, Timothy (Shona) Lilly and Fred Michael
17 Lilly; his sisters, Pamela Eve Lilly, Cheryl Renee (the Rev.
18 Joseph) Anthony, and Bonita G. Lilly; his aunt, Araminta Young;
19 his father-in-law, Rollins Currie; his god-daughter, Gabrielle
20 Palmeri; and his many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and
21 friends; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Jerome Lilly will be remembered by all who knew

1 and loved him as an honest, respectful, and fair person whose
2 contagious laughter, beaming smile, and upbeat personality
3 drew attention wherever he went; therefore, be it
 
4     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6 his family and friends, the passing of Jerome Lilly; and be it
7 further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to the family of Jerome Lilly as an expression of our
10 sympathy.
