SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Bernard Oaks of Canton, who passed away
4 on October 25, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Bernard Oaks was born on February 14, 1929 in
6 Canton; he is the son of Bernard R. and Gaye (Brillhart) Oaks;
7 he married Betty J. Lounsberry on October 18, 1953 in
8 Petersburg; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Bernard Oaks was a United States Army veteran and
10 served his country during the Korean War; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Bernard Oaks was a licensed funeral director for
12 43 years; he served as Fulton County Treasurer for 14 years; he
13 also served 8 years on the Fulton County Board and 4 years as
14 Fulton County Board Chairman; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Bernard Oaks was a 50-year member of the Clinton
16 Lodge 15 in Petersburg, a member of the American Legion Post 16
17 in Canton, and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in
18 Canton; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Bernard Oaks was preceded in death by his parents;
20 his daughter, Teresa Oaks-Hubbard; and his brother, Dr. Donald

1 Oaks; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Bernard Oaks is survived by his wife, Betty; his
3 sons, Steven Oaks and Daniel (Lori) Oaks; his daughter, Barbara
4 (John) Closen; and his six grandchildren and one
5 great-grandchild; therefore, be it
 
6     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
8 his family and friends, the passing of Bernard Oaks; and be it
9 further
 
10     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to the family of Bernard Oaks as an expression of our
12 sympathy.
