SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Katherine Figge of Edwardsville, who
4 passed away on June 20, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Katherine Figge was born on February 14, 1905, in
6 East St. Louis; she was the daughter of the late Harry and
7 Catherine Hunterbrinker Stanton; she married Walter Figge on
8 February 7, 1932, in Alhambra; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Katherine Figge began working at the age of 13 at
10 Schaefer's Department Store in East St. Louis as a cashier; at
11 age 15, she began working at S.S. Kresge's Five and Dime in
12 East St. Louis as a cashier, working there until 1943; along
13 with her husband she owned and operated Figge's Grocery on St.
14 Louis Street in Edwardsville from 1943 to 1968; from 1968 to
15 1994, she was employed as a bookkeeper at Schwartz Drug Store,
16 and later worked part time at Madison Telephone Company in
17 Hamel; she was a member of the Eden United Church of Christ in
18 Edwardsville; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Katherine Figge was preceded in death by her
20 husband; her parents; her sister, Margaret Hubeli; her brother,
21 Harry Stanton; her nephew, Don Stanton; and her niece, Mary
22 Louise Richards; and

1     WHEREAS, Katherine Figge is survived by her nieces and
2 nephews, Robert Schwartz and his wife, Sandi, Dr. William
3 Schwartz and his wife, Gay, Rex Aton, Jean Krome, Donna Duncan,
4 Dr. Guy Aton and his wife, Jeanne, Mary Jan Figge, June
5 Stewart, and Mark Figge; her sister-in-law, Jean Figge; and
6 numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great
7 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
8     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
10 her family and friends, the passing of Katherine Figge; and be
11 it further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to the family of Katherine Figge as an expression of
14 our sympathy.
