SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Samuel Richard Herndon of Roxana, who
4 passed away on June 23, 2007; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Samuel Herndon was born October 5, 1924, in Bonne
6 Terre, Missouri, to Rodney and Erma (Kneedler) Herndon; he
7 married the former Mary Chesser on November 28, 1947, in
8 Sedalia, Missouri; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Samuel Herndon was a World War II veteran, serving
10 with the United States Army Air Corps; he was a director of
11 guidance for several years at Roxana High School; he had also
12 been a Roxana village trustee and with the board of directors
13 for Community Education Federal Credit Union; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Samuel Herndon was a lifetime member of the
15 National Education Association and the Illinois Education
16 Association; he was active on various committees at St. Paul
17 United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights, where he was a
18 charter member of the United Methodist Men; and he was an
19 inductee into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Samuel Herndon was preceded in death by his
21 parents and one brother, Carl Herndon; and

1     WHEREAS, The passing of Samuel Herndon will be deeply felt
2 by those who knew and loved him, especially his wife, Mary; his
3 sons, James Herndon and his wife, Jane, David Herndon and his
4 fiancee, Deborah Graham, and John Herndon and his wife, Diane;
5 his grandchildren, Matthew and Jennifer Herndon, Alicia Martin
6 and her husband, Joseph, Neil, Erin, and Ian Herndon; his
7 great-grandchildren, Kiley and Katie Herndon, Noah, Ethan and
8 Emma Martin; and his sister, Virginia Weatherly; therefore, be
9 it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
11 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
12 his family and friends, the passing of Samuel Richard Herndon;
13 and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to the family of Samuel Richard Herndon as a symbol
16 of our sympathy.
