SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Dr. Charles F. Ehret of Grayslake,
4 formerly of Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills, who passed away on
5 February 24, 2007; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Charles Ehret was born on March 9, 1923 in the
7 Bronx, New York; he was a graduate of City College of New York;
8 he received his doctorate in zoology from the University of
9 Notre Dame; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Dr. Ehret served in the 87th Infantry for the
11 United States Army during World War II; he fought in the Battle
12 of the Bulge and was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star;
13 and
 
14     WHEREAS, Dr. Ehret spent his career researching at Argonne
15 National Laboratories, where he retired as senior scientist
16 emeritus in 1988; and
 
17     WHEREAS, During his retirement he was active in the
18 Veterans of Foreign Wars reunions of the 87th Infantry
19 Division; he also gardened and conducted experiments at
20 Argonne's Advanced Photon Source; he published the book
21 "Overcoming Jet Lag", based on his studies of circadian

1 dyschronism; the book became very popular because of the diet
2 ideas prescribed by Dr. Ehret for people to combat jet lag; he
3 researched the biological origin of language, and participated
4 in the Chicago Center for Religion and Science; in 1971 he
5 donated Ehret Park to the community of Hinsdale; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Dr. Ehret was preceded in death by his parents,
7 Henry and Harriett; his sons, Bill and Hank; and his brother,
8 Harry; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Dr. Charles Ehret is survived by his wife of 61
10 years, Dorothy (nee Armstrong); his children, Tom, Peter,
11 Louise Legler, Albert, Julia Buckley, and John; his fourteen
12 grandchildren; his six great-grandchildren; and his many
13 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
14     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL
15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
16 his family and friends, the passing of Dr. Charles F. Ehret;
17 and be it further
 
18     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19 presented to the family of Dr. Charles Ehret as a symbol of our
20 sympathy.
