SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
10 ILCS 5/25-7   from Ch. 46, par. 25-7

    Amends the Election Code. When the Governor appoints a special election to fill a congressional vacancy, requires that the Governor appoint the primary and election days within 10 days after the vacancy occurs, after consultation with the clerks of the affected counties and the State board of Elections (now, the Governor, within 5 days after the vacancy occurs, appoints a day within 115 days for the special election).

1     AN ACT concerning elections.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing Section
5 25-7 as follows:
 
6     (10 ILCS 5/25-7)  (from Ch. 46, par. 25-7)
7     Sec. 25-7. When any vacancy shall occur in the office of
8 representative in congress from this state more than 180 days
9 before the next general election, the Governor shall issue a
10 writ of election within 10 5 days after the occurrence of that
11 vacancy to the county clerks of the several counties in the
12 district where the vacancy exists, after consultation with the
13 affected clerks and the State Board of Elections, appointing
14 days upon which the special primary and special election to
15 fill such vacancy shall occur appointing a day within 115 days
16 to hold a special election to fill such vacancy.
