SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-664 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for issuance of U.S. Navy license plates, at an additional initial charge of $15 and an additional renewal charge of $2 with eligibility requirements to be determined by the Secretary of State. Provides that the $15 additional initial charge and the $2 renewal charge shall go to the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund. Provides that the plates must display the U.S. Navy emblem. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-664 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-664 new)
7     Sec. 3-664. U.S. Navy license plates.
8     (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
9 Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and applications
10 made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may
11 issue U.S. Navy license plates to residents of Illinois who
12 meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the Secretary of
13 State. The special U.S. Navy plate issued under this Section
14 shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first
15 division, motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second
16 division weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued
17 under this Section shall expire according to the staggered
18 multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this
19 Code.
20     (b) The plates shall display the U.S. Navy emblem. In all
21 other respects, the design, color, and format of the plates
22 shall be within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The
23 Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be

1 issued as vanity or personalized plates in accordance with
2 Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to
3 designate "Land Of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of
4 Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe the
5 eligibility requirements and, in his or her discretion, shall
6 approve and prescribe stickers or decals as provided under
7 Section 3-412.
8     (c) An applicant shall be charged a $15 fee for original
9 issuance in addition to the applicable registration fee. This
10 additional fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State
11 Special License Plate Fund. For each registration renewal
12 period, a $2 fee, in addition to the applicable registration
13 fee, shall be charged and shall be deposited into the Secretary
14 of State Special License Plate Fund.
 
15     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
16 becoming law.
